Dining Room! (Accent Wall & Flooring)

The accent wall was fairly simple to complete. I painted the wall the color that I wanted it – in this case its orange. For the board and baton accent I also painted the wooden sticks the same color then measured them/cut them to fit.

Since this house is 1:24 scale I didn’t think that the flooring I did in the past two houses with vinyl tiles would look the best because of the sizing. They would have also been more difficult to cut in the correct sizes. So for the wood flooring in the dining room (and other rooms that have wood flooring), I decided to go with coffee stirrers.

I found a big bag of coffee stirrers on Amazon for about $5. I purchased a saw from Harbor Freight tools which made cutting the coffee stirrers so much easier. It was $40 but there was a 20% off coupon so I ended up getting this cute little saw for about $32.

The coffee stirrers were simply cut in half for this room, or about half, not all were exact. Then I laid them in the room with wood glue. I used a little foam brush to brush the glue onto the back of the wood for the flooring. These brushes I got 5/$1 at the dollar store so the glue ruining them wasn’t a big issue.

Then once they were dry, I stained them. Miniwax “Honey”.
