DIY Kitchen

I decided for this build to make as much of the furniture as I could. I want to personalize this house as much as possible.

The furniture in the kitchen is all made out of unfinished balsa wood. It was 2mm which made it very easy to cut with a box cutter. Below are the specific ones I purchased from Amazon.

To start, I sketched out what I wanted to the kitchen to look like. And approximate heights/widths/sizes.

I made the sink piece and corner pieces first. Then added (nonfunctional) drawers and doors.

The fridge and the stove were relatively easy to make. They were basically just boxes. Gorilla wood glue is so helpful because it dries pretty quick so you can hold it while its drying rather than needing to put things on top of it. You can do that also but this wood is very thin so I found holding it for a few seconds them setting it down to finish drying very helpful.

To spice up the wall where the fire place used to be I added wood planks to create a beautiful shiplap wall.

Heres how everything looks pre-painting and staining. I am super proud of how everything turned out!

The shiplap wall and the venting hood are being painted “Coconut Milk” to match the walls.
The cabinets will be painted “Dusty Olive” (this was the color I used on the bathroom walls in the Arthur house). Both paints are valspar paints from Lowes.
The fridge and stove are painted a metallic black. “Sequin Black” from FolkArt paint.
The tops of the cabinets will be stained with the “Natural 209” wood finish/penetrating stain by Minwax, to give it a butcher block countertop look.
Hardware for the handles are wood but I’m using a gold metallic marker that I found in the craft isle at the dollar store to make them look fancy and tie everything in together.

Finished look (flooring obviously still needs to be completed):

    1. Thank you so much for reading! I do plan to put up some lights but not in the traditional dollhouse wiring way. I plan on trying to diy some hanging lights. I will definitely post about it when I do it πŸ™‚
