I wanted the fireplaces to have a brick feel to them. I saw on an instagram post that someone used cork to make bricks and they looked really amazing so I tried it.

The dollar store (which is increasingly becoming a staple craft item spot) had these adhesive back cork sheets for, you guessed it, $1.

I cut them down. For the 1:24 scale they were a half inch long. I didnt really measure the cuts across but tried to keep them as similar to a bricks shape as possible.
The next part was easy. Remove the paper on the back to expose the adhesive back. Stick them onto the fire place in whatever pattern you’d like. I tried to be creative with mine.
Then I painted them. The house seems to be turning out very warm so I wanted to stick with that. Both got painted with an “antique white”. I painted the inside – (the hearth?) – black. I do hope to create fire for it. Fire that will light up. But I’m still brainstorming how I will go about doing that.
Final Look:

This looks great! Very clever. I wonder if I could have used the cork sheet for roof shingles – painting them black. And I wonder what other things could be made with them. Your fireplace looks terrific! Great job!

I think it could definitely work for roof shingles. I may try to use them on my deck as stone painted grey. And thank you!
