DIY Couch

I am really proud of my first couch creation. Its a little rough and I’m sure the next time I attempt a couch itll be better but I’m still really happy about this first one.

To start off I found these crafting blocks at the dollar tree. At the time I honestly had no idea what I would use them for but I picked them up anyway.

When I was looking at the living room I decided to place them inside the room to get measurements, but then quickly realized I could just use them for the furniture themselves.

The thought was a couch, an accent chair, and a table. The table ended up turning into an ottoman because I ended up wrapping it in fabric.

Unfortunately I don’t have pictures for each step, only the final product but heres a rough step by step of the process.
Step One: Glue the cubes together with wood glue.
Step Two: Cover the glued together cubes in fabric.
Step Three: Wrap fabric around the sides. Make sure that the fabric is folded in thirds so there are no seams showing.
Step Four: Measure wood for the back and the sides. I used the same balsa wood that I used in the kitchen. For the backs I glued 2 panels together (after they had been individually wrapped in fabric) so that it would be thicker. For the arms of the accent chair I only used one.
Step Five: Wrap these wood pieces in fabric.
Step Six: Glue arms together or backs together. Wrap fabric around the sides like done with the cubes. Again making sure the fabric is folded in thirds.
Step Seven: Assemble
Step Eight: Glue on legs. I cut square dowels, but I’m sure you could be creative and use whatever you think wouldlook good.

Final Product:

Scale wise the couch might be considered a little “oversized” for a 1:24 house.
The couch measures about 3 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. So in life sized scale it would be 7feet by 3 feet.
The chair is a little over 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 inches. 3feet by 3feet in life sized scale.

The next house I plan to build will be 1:12 and I will definitely be trying to make a set again. It may be easier with the bigger scale. I honestly really love this little mini set and think it’ll be so perfect in the room..
