Home Depot Haul

First trip to Home Depot, and I got lots of goodies. I believe this is the first time I went to Home Depot and was actually excited to be there. I found it a little intimidating, I walked around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to find sandpaper for about 10 minutes. Luckily someone saw the lost look on my face and pointed me in the right direction. Here’s what I got:

1: Plastic Wood/Wood Filler
When building the fire places and bookshelves I found that there were some gaps between the pieces. The ends of the wood also looked funky, and I want a smooth look once I’ve painted. I got the plastic wood in order to fill those gaps and eventually sand it out smoothly so painting would go on better and look better when finished. I plan on using a paint brush to apply it where it needs to go. It looks very pliable.

2: Sandpaper (220 Grade)
I got the finest grade sand paper so that everything being sanded to be painted will be as smooth as possible. I hope using this will help keep the walls from looking too “woody” and actually be smooth like walls in a real home. I loved the sponge look of it. I think that will make it easier to grip and use when sanding the walls.

3. Primer
I want the colors on the inside and outside of the house to POP, so primer will help me achieve that. I will be priming all the rooms (even the ones being wallpapered) so that each and every color will stand out boldly. This was the smallest can I could find. But I’m also going to prime the outside of the house so I’m sure I’ll be using a lot of it during the priming process. It is a primer AND sealer combo so hopefully this will prevent the wood from absorbing the paint too much.

4. Paint Samples
I visited both Michael’s and AC Moore over the weekend and was unable to find the colors I had in mind for the rooms. There were many selections but blues and greens were limited. I really wanted an Emerald Green and couldn’t find it anywhere. So I went to Home Depot and got paint samples (for $3 and something cents) and I was able to get the exact colors that I wanted! The brand was Behr Marquee (flat/matte finish) – which guarantees 100% coverage in one coat. We’ll see how well it holds up!

Can you guess which color is going into which room? (answer below)

Zero Gravity (Gray): Bedroom
Tropical Waterfall (Blue): Bathroom
Exquisite Emerald (Green): Living Room

Did you guess correctly?
