My Willow dollhouse came today! (A day early at that, thanks to Amazon Prime). I came home from work to a LARGE box. Much larger than I anticipated. I’m not completely sure how big I really expected it to be but it was larger then I thought it would be. I’ve included a picture with my PS4 controller just to show the actual size of the box.

Opening the box I was overwhelmed, to say the least. So many boards, so many pieces. The instructions although a bit confusing in some places seem easy enough to follow along to complete the project. Just needed to re-read it a few times to fully comprehend.

The longest part so far after opening the box was figuring out what was on each piece. I tried to label the big pieces on each board as I went through all 11. I thought I would just go through the boards and label but I was way too excited to stop there!

Carefully, I took out the big pieces I would need to start putting the house together. There is a lot of dust generated during this process! In shipping some pieces came dislodged from the boards so I got little sandwich bags to put them into after labeling which board the pieces came from. After figuring out what was what, I punched out the pieces from the walls/floors (windows, slots, fireplaces, doors, etc). Having an exacto knife was incredibly helpful for cutting out the small slots in the flooring/walls. Some pieces were difficult to push out and I was afraid the wood would break/splinter so the knife helped keep things cleanly cut. Some pieces did end up splintering and using the sandpaper fixed it quickly.
Following the instructions that came with the house, the first things I glued together were the front wall, first floor foundation, and first floor partition (shown below). The tabs did not all fit right away into the slots so it took some time to shave down/cut down the slots so the tabs would fit in perfectly. I was covered in sawdust but it was an amazing feeling when the tabs fit together!

I have a feeling Gorilla glue is going to be my best friend from now on. It went on super smooth, and looks to be drying clear. I’m going to let it dry and work on more another day. Day one of construction was a fun start!
